Spoken word: International Women’s Day 2015

For International Women’s Day 2015, I was invited by AWAM Malaysia to perform a poem at their #DefineYourself event. I had done this back in 2013, and I was excited at the chance to do it again. I performed “Not Very Nice” (working title), a poem about anger, misandry, and feminism and how they all intersect. This is an issue very close to my heart, something I grapple with in my day to day. It was a nervewracking but fully worthwhile and validating experience – I had a few women come up to me afterwards to thank me for the poem, which meant so much. Warning for discussions of rape.

In the poem I reference Bad Feminist by Roxane Gay, and this article about Mukesh Singh.
